This is my first year participating in Calling it Home’s, One Room Challenge, and because I am pushing to get a couple of rooms ‘complete’ in my house, I decided to work not only on the Dining Room but also my Master Bedroom! So each week you will get two separate posts on Wednesdays  showing my progress so make sure you catch both!

So here’s how the ORC works!

Today kicks off week one where interior design bloggers challenge themselves to transform a room from start to finish, while documenting the process along the way in 6 weeks.

It’s excellent motivation!

So some of you may have seen my finished master bedroom awhile ago, well dropping a bottle of bleach cleaner on your bedspread kind of wrecks things… so the bedspread had to go.  Here it is before (post here)…

MasterBedroom10

So I loved it like this! I still do, but there were still some things left undone at this stage… ok… things I wanted to do but was waiting for funding 😉

So here is the list I want to tackle in the next 6 weeks!

  1. Refresh Curtains
  2. New Bedspread
  3. DIY bedskirt
  4. Refinish nightstands
  5. DIY Full length mirror
  6. Refinish existing chair with new paint and fabric

Here is my initial mood board…

ORCMasterBedroom

Maybe the bleach was a blessing in disguise for two reasons, one, it makes me feel like I was being punished for cleaning and should therefor, not do it, and two, this springy, brighter look just seems more like me! 🙂

Make sure you check back each week to see my progress and don’t forget to check out the Dining Room project as well!

xoxo,

B

Today kicks off week one where interior design bloggers challenge themselves to transform a room from start to finish, while documenting the process along the way in 6 weeks.

It’s just the motivation I need! I want to get all of my major projects done before summer hits and the boys are back at home to ‘help’ me 😉

Here is a picture of the space after I did the paneling a few years ago (post here)…

And here it is now with my DIY Live Edge Table

DIYLiveEdgeTable4

DIYLiveEdgeTable5

This room became my workspace once the summer heat just wouldn’t quit and furniture needed to dry.  So I made the table so that it could be moved easily but still give us a semi-nice dining space to eat on our fancy 4 meals a year 😉

And that’s how it has sat for too long! No chairs… just ones we drag from other places and sometimes laundry drying on the floor.  Not proud of that, but it’s the truth.  So let’s make a list, because Momma loves to check off a list!

  1. Finish paneling around the window
  2. Find chairs that can be easily stored/removed as well
  3. New curtains
  4. Hang Artwork
  5. Refurbish tea cart
  6. Replace hutch with a larger sideboard for more storage
  7. Utilize said storage to not have junk on counters!

So there you have it! It seems very attainable… until I add in everyday life and the ten other things that will come to me that I want to do in there as well.  Super excited! You can jump over here to follow the progress of my Master Bedroom as well!

ORCDiningRoom

I’m so excited to get started on both of my rooms and give you updates each week on my progress!

A bohemian and classic nursery… be still my boy mom heart! I was a bit stumped at first on how to combine the two styles but I think the color pallet helped guide my choices in fabrics and textures and will help the room flow.

To start a room design board, I ask the client for inspiration pictures and color tones that they love.  The pictures are everything to me because what one person may call classic/traditional, another maybe call modern… ya never know.  The color pallet immediate puts a vision of the large items in the room and ways to build around those with fun patterns.  And have I mentioned that it’s super fun spending other people’s money? My husband just loves that part of these projects 😉

I still have some tweaking to do, but it’s coming along… just gonna need that baby girl to really complete it!

Wall Colors: Benjamin Moore Love and Happiness (pink) and Benjamin Moore White Dove

I have to mention that the painting can be customized and is done by my beautiful and talented friend Courtney, at Etsy shop, SurLaToile.  Her work is just gorgeous and so heartfelt!

I look forward to showing the final reveal!

Recently good friends of our moved into a gorgeous new home and I got the fun job of helping gather some inspiration for a couple of their rooms.  The first was a gorgeous living room right as you enter- as soon as it is all decorated I am excited to show you all how it turns out- but I wanted to share some inspiration boards I came up with!

For this space, they really just wanted a neutral and calm sitting area that looks out  to their pool-  it has a beautiful grand fireplace and chunky white molding which I love!

The Chairs are from Target (links below) and they come in many different patterns!

Kate2

The other wall needed some hight to balance out the fireplace opposite from it- so I mocked up a long side table and mirrors that will bring your eye up.  They also mimic the widows around the rest of the room.

All of the sources you find below are going to be economical! Most are from Target, and right now if you use the Coupon Code- SPRING10 – you get 10% off your purchase!  I have found that you can mimic a high end look on a budget… just takes a bit of digging:)

Have a great week and you can click on the pictures for sources and pricing below!

The reality that my boys are getting older is not easy for me.  I will always call them my babies and they will always roll their eyes, but I don’t care;)  But the playroom is needing to evolve as they do so I’ve been working on some inspiration!

Out with the ‘baby’ toys and in with the cool games and legos and of course a basketball hoop!  And let’s not forget a couch that can withstand the two of them and their friends… and them growing at a ridiculous rate.

I am going for a comfortable feel with grays, blues, and some orange and just enough design to make this designer Momma happy too!

PlayRoom1

I am also working under my BossHog/CFO so we all know I gotta pinch my pennies!  But you also know he wants to be able to lay on that couch in comfort while they all play video games too.

The wallpaper is the biggest splurge, but I am pretty much obsessed with it and it comes in removable sheets which will make doing just the nook super easy! It is by Hygge and West and is called DayDream in Orange.

The couch I am still pondering but this one at Nebraska Furniture Mart looks nice and the price can’t be beat!

The HOME Pillow is from Eleventh Avenue and is available in any state and for $12!

I need to do a major toy purge in there before any make over can take place, but I’m excited to put some new elements into the room.

And you can Shop the List of other Sources below!

I have always wanted to do inspiration boards online for myself and for others but I have just never jumped in and done it! I am old fashioned and still love my magazines and torn out pages and such… ya know like they did back in the olden days.
But recently I saw that Beth, from Home Stories A to Z, was doing a contest on Olio Boards partnering with West Elm, and I thought well it might be time to figure out this whole board thing.  I dove in and with a small learning curve I Loved it!
In fact, I loved it so much that I will soon be offering inspiration boards to clients!
I thought it would be fun to go on a little inspiration board journey with you though so you can see how it works… and doesn’t:)
My first trial run is my master bedroom- I assured the Hubs that this was for the love of science and it had to be done- and we had to get a new rug…
and paint…
and some other stuff…
for all of you…
not me…
you’re welcome.

Because I have the patience of an ant, I forgot to take a before pic, but here is a fairly recent one~

I did really like it- but it just wasn’t meeting all of my needs- that little red table for instance was super cute- but not a great place to display anything- and my room is the only kid boy free zone that I have so all of my special stuff is, well stuffed onto my dresser.  And the paint color was starting to get old to me… ya know cause it has been up there for like two years;)
Oh and did I mention that the duvet that is on there finally drove my hubs and I mad?! When will I ever learn that duvets just aren’t for me? They never stay in place and it drives me batty! So that had to be replaced.
Now that you see how dire the situation was, I will show you my inspiration Olio Board, which was held up due to four different samples of paint that I was completely undecided about.

Master Bedroom

I’m not gonna lie… I was doing a happy dance! And budget wise it wasn’t too bad- the biggest expense would be the rug- but was still reasonably priced on Overstock for an 8×10.
Here are the items I already have:
Headboard
Grey Euro Pillows/Shams (Ikea)
Lamps (from Target)
End Tables (Joss and Main)
Dresser
Bookcase (Overstock)
Bamboo Chair (see post here)
Fabric for recovering chair  (Ikea)
Grey Pic Frames (Ikea)
I have curtains but have a spruce up plan for them

Things I need… ok, want:
Rug (Overstock)
Bench (Overstock)
Paint (Benjamin Moore- Northern Cliffs)
Oh and the energy to paint… thankfully that was given to me this weekend in the form of a McDonalds Coke!:)

So phase one was painting! If you follow me on Facebook you got a sneak peek, and if you don’t, well, you should.  Now because I was doing all of this with little to no need for a bedroom redo- I had to put on my thinking cap budget wise.  This week was the Sherwin Williams 40% off paints sale- so in I went with my Benjamin Moore sample and sheepishly asked them to recreate two gallons of it.  Does anyone else feel bad about that? Like I cheated on Ben and made Sherwin feel like sloppy seconds? Just doesn’t sit right- but it was all in the name of love… i.e. keeping my husband from having heart failure over my spending.

And I am in love with this color! Just a great blue gray that somehow has some warmth in it too!

Here is a shot before I got out the ladder and finished up top- heavily textured walls are so annoying, especially when you don’t have crown molding- it’s so hard to get a clean line whether you use tape or any other method… believe me… I’ve tried them all! But here you can see the difference in colors…

It’s hard to capture a great photo right now with the room in total chaos but you will see more soon! And the best part… the rug and bench are on their way!
xoxo
