A bohemian and classic nursery… be still my boy mom heart! I was a bit stumped at first on how to combine the two styles but I think the color pallet helped guide my choices in fabrics and textures and will help the room flow.

To start a room design board, I ask the client for inspiration pictures and color tones that they love.  The pictures are everything to me because what one person may call classic/traditional, another maybe call modern… ya never know.  The color pallet immediate puts a vision of the large items in the room and ways to build around those with fun patterns.  And have I mentioned that it’s super fun spending other people’s money? My husband just loves that part of these projects 😉

I still have some tweaking to do, but it’s coming along… just gonna need that baby girl to really complete it!

Wall Colors: Benjamin Moore Love and Happiness (pink) and Benjamin Moore White Dove

Sources: (affiliates present)

| Floral Pillow | Buffalo Check Pillow | Rug | Crib | Curtains | Fringe Tassel | Ballerina Painting |

I have to mention that the painting can be customized and is done by my beautiful and talented friend Courtney, at Etsy shop, SurLaToile.  Her work is just gorgeous and so heartfelt!

I look forward to showing the final reveal!

OK… let’s just get this out of the way… our AC went out (we live in TX)… my back went out (I have small children) and my energy went out (see first two issues).  So, I hope you will forgive me for my absence!
I feel like I need to give a little reminder about where we left off- kind of like a soap opera- hopefully they can’t cancel blogs like they are All My Children!! but let’s not go there. deep breath.
I was hired to do a small redo and design in a playroom for two cutie little boys- and Mom and Dad love them some animal print and wanted it to still flow well with the rest of the house but be kid friendly and a little whimsical.  This transitioned to a maroon/brown color scheme with some furniture redo’s and then throwing in some animal print and airplanes for the boys- I know- sounds a little all over the place but just stick with me… it’s a big room!:)
So last post you saw the former primary color book stand they had that I transformed from this:

To this (and you can read all about it here)

That was a first major step in bringing in the Maroon and Brown and animal print!
Today I am going to show you some of the smaller touches that I brought into the room to add a personal touch and also the inspiration that I found prior to starting the Room to help give the homeowner an idea of where my crazy mind was going!

Got most of these accessories at HomeGoods… gottta love it… isn’t the inside of this lampshade to die for!?! and at $40… Shut the Front Door!!

Assorted boxes to let little fingers put little treasures in with paints and fabrics to customize them!

a little whimsy with this oversized alarm clock… and fabric inspirations with our room colors- for recovering existing couch pillows

to be honest I would have bought this no matter what I was doing in this room! So awesome- and what you can’t totally see is that it is hanging with a chain- so my plan is to hang it from the ceiling with a plant hook over the reading nook:)

And an affordable rug (8×10) in either a zebra or giraffe print like this one…

So- that was the long version of my mood board.
and today’s sneak peak will be the cute boxes and Read sign that I coordinated and made to place in the reading nook area- basically I just painted them and stenciled either numbers or letters on them- and the two zebra print ones were mod podged with fabric before the stencil.  The Read sign with stars on it was painted and then wood glued to a scrap piece of wood and then I mod podged over the whole thing to give it a nice shine-

I’m in the process of redecorating/organizing a playroom for a client-  and this first project was a fun turnable book stand- nothing wrong with it and super functional so of course it stays- but let’s just say that strangely enough their house isn’t decorated in all primary colors?! that was sarcasm people…

(sorry- big surprise that I got so excited I forgot to take a good before pic!)
So the primaries got the boot- and Mom asked me what I was going to do to it and after you see our whole room plan this will make sense but I knew I had to incorporate animal print- and her colors were burgundy/brown/white…. huh.
I was a little stumped- I mean everything else was flowing so nicely but I didn’t want this to be like all of the other furniture because let’s face it- it’s not!
So I went and bought some spray paint and got to work!  This piece was a real #$%@# fun project to prime and paint…. more sarcasm… stay with me.  But after a good coat of Zinsser (you know I love this) I took it out back at the crack of dawn because that’s the only time it’s cool enough to paint outside- and started a-spraying.
The gorgeous, deep red first- around the sides and accents and the top-

after that was dry I cut in with the  rich brown and then haphazardly sprayed it over some of the red so it almost gives the illusion of animal stripes. Now I liked the top just a solid red- but I really wanted to make it more custom- so out came some brown craft paint and then after saying four Hail Mary’s I jumped in to paint my first animal print pattern freehand! yikes! a little scary and for a second I felt like laying down and crying- but then I just kept going and now I Love it!!

and without flash so you can see that it is not as bright red as it appears…

and then for fun a bright pop of white (which coordinates with the other furniture) a stencil of the letter N, for their last name!

And there you have it! I am pretty pleased with this puppy and so are they- so that’s what really matters!Hope you are all having a great week!

My baby boy is now a big boy! It’s hard to believe… and to stop myself from weeping I will use the occasion to redecorate.  It is a form of therapy after all!
Now he has had a few super hero things in his room for awhile- like these pics that I bought as floor models from Pottery Barn Kids…

and before you judge me… no those are not finger prints on them… it is some kind of weird reflection… maybe…

Anyway! I decided I wanted to add some more Super Hero to the long, blue accent wall above his bed and had seen some old Comic Book Quote Words in the Pottery Barn Kids store framed really cute- I wanted to buy them but they weren’t for sale!! what!? I know!!

I mean why taunt me like that- it was literally the store managers idea- and of course I didn’t have my camera so I just took a mental shot of them and left the store angry, mad, and confused!

Oh and then I went to Hobby Lobby to get justice and recreate them myself.

After some thought and wandering aimlessly around the store I found some frames (50% off- $7 each) and some blue matting (50% off $2each) and was about to buy some different scrap paper when it hit me that felt would give it a lot more texture- so the light shined down on me and yes… 50% off sheets of felt which meant that they were practically nothing!!

Awesome! now I just needed to go home and try to make these puppies…
Patience is not one of my strongest virtues- when I think of a project I want it done yesterday- so I had to slow myself down and map it all out and after cutting ten a couple different sizes and shapes and using chalk to outline the words on the felt (it rubs right off after you are done cutting) I came up with this….

I think they came out ok and Little Man Loves them so that makes me super happy!
So for about $30 total I like the added Super Hero Quotes!

Makes me want to find some old comic books and frame those or something… wheels keep on turnin people!!

Bee:)
