The Lazy Girls Guide to Fall Decor

It’s not always beautiful vignettes and roses around here. I really love when fall arrives and have every desire to decorate with pumpkins and gourds and all that good stuff… but it’s also sports and school and before I know it is time to decorate for Christmas!

So here’s the nitty gritty… I’ve teamed up with some of my other favorite bloggers to show you the real deal! the shortcuts and the ugly truth!

There are dirty secrets in blog land… and dirty is the key word. The beautiful mantel you see there… yeah, it was covered in legos and trucks before I threw everything on the other side of the room to get the shot of the cute Fall Decor. Now on one hand I feel a bit bad about the dishonesty of that- but on the other, you aren’t coming to this website for a look at clutter! You don’t want inspiration on how to have your house look like crap… so that’s just kind of the nature of the beast.

Just never mind all that chaos… unless you prefer the dump truck as a centerpiece. But above the chaos I can still manage a little glamour shot

And why not coordinate with the rest of toys?! That Star Wars pumpkin was just a must!

My other go to vignette area is the entry way. It just make me happy to have a pretty entrance into our home.

Now really… this is where the lazy comes in! A couple pumpkins and some greenery changed the whole feel of the space… Lazy and wonderful! Texas Pillow was from here.

A couple other little faux pumpkins get scattered around as well just to fake the awesome fall decor…

The only thing I purchased this year was actually found in the Christmas Decor at Hobby Lobby and I have to share because its a serious steal! I have seen these pretty beads adorning vases and lamps floating around but have been less than thrilled with the prices- but I spied these wooden beads and scooped some strands up! $4.99 at 50% off was just fine with me!

Pottery Barn has a couple that I love- but this price is waaaaay more my speed:) and if you wanted a different color well then grab your spray paint!

Halloween Outside Decor: #swapitlikeitshot

If y’all have been following along with our 40 blog tour of thrifted goods that have been transformed for $10 and under, then you don’t need this explained anymore! If you haven’t- then run back here and check out my faux marble box and all the links and awesomeness! This is an additional post to show how I incorporated some of my thrifted presents into outside Halloween decor!

These 3 little wall hangings sent to me from Trisha at Black and White Obsession, had passed their prime. It took me awhile to figure out what to do with them really, but when the boys started nagging about getting our outdoor Halloween stuff up I thought they could help me make a cute little sign!

First up was some black spray paint- and I didn’t let the boys do it- although they wanted to… #taggers.

Then I showed them some pictures of spiders and webs and gave them some white paint pens! I wrote the words Trick or Treat on them and then just screwed them into some scrap wood. Pretty easy and the boys love that they made something special to add to the fun outdoor decorating!

Do y’all put up outdoor decor for Halloween? We do a little but it’s too much for me to do decor for every season Thats why I like my wreath (tutorial here) because it has spanned across several seasons!

Painted Pumpkins and Fall Decor

I love seasonal decorating, but when it stays so hot through September here, it’s hard to motivate me to get out all of my fall and Halloween goodies! But my little ones love the Halloween stuff in particular so they usually ask me where all the pumpkins are after they have seen all of our more productive neighbor’s decor up;)
This year I wanted some more pumpkins and gourds but I wanted to have a more neutral display with them. I went up to the dollar store and gathered about five small ones and brought them home and got to work!

I used everything I had on hand- some Annie Sloan Chalk paint in French Linen, Duck Egg, and Pure White and some dark wax. This was a pretty easy project- just painted them some different colors and then put a very small amount of dark wax on them and to add some more pretty I just put a little rub and buff on the stems!

After they were all dry I sprayed them with an acrylic sealer that gave them a little shine and voila! I love them- simple- but festive….

I may as well tell you that I also got antsy for the ten minutes of dry time and decided to paint a couple of picture frames that were a bit blah to me… basically because they were holding still… I love quick little make-overs!

I also threw together a simple fall table setting- but because this is our do homework, eat at, sleep on, paint on, saw on, kind of table- it can’t be much! But I saw this throw rug at Ikea for next to nothing and loved the colors and texture it brought it- and why would I put it on the floor? Rugs on floors are for amateurs! and a simple wheat arrangement with some corks I had, made a pretty easy center piece.

And here are some more pretties- for now my pumpkins are in a cloche- and you can see a sneak peak of the hutch- I will be ready to show y’all that this next week!
